Website, API and MCP terms

Updated October 4, 2026 · Version 2026-10-04

Personal, non-commercial use

Dapperfinch Inc. provides the LiveSky website calculator and public API/MCP service for your personal, non-commercial astronomy use. By using them, you agree to these terms. Native LiveSky apps have separate features and platform terms.

Without our written permission, you may not resell access or results, integrate the service into a commercial product, run a paid service on it, bulk harvest its data or use it to build a competing service. Personal use through a paid chat client is permitted. Contact anurag@dapperfinch.com for other uses.

Automated access and API keys

Agents and integrations must use the documented MCP interface rather than automate the website or its private browser endpoints. Do not scrape, crawl or bulk query the calculator. Crawler exclusions are instructions for cooperative crawlers; they do not grant or enforce access rights.

When issued, an API key is personal and non-transferable. Keep it private and send it only in the documented HTTPS authorization header, never in a URL, public repository or client-side website code. Do not share, sell or distribute keys. Report a suspected leak promptly and revoke or rotate the affected key.

Personal keys are intended to allow at most 10 tool calls per rolling hour and 30 per rolling day, with a 30-day expiry. Separately approved connector accounts can have an explicitly assigned allowance. These key limits apply once key authentication is activated; the currently public service still allows anonymous access and does not yet issue keys.

Limits and availability

All requests share protective service and provider budgets. The current service throttles network sources to approximately 60 requests per minute and expensive calculations to approximately 10 per minute, with a shared calculation budget of 1,800 weighted units per minute. Network throttles are approximate and are not per-person allowances. Place searches share a 2,000-per-UTC-day allowance and spacing of at least 1.1 seconds. AI guides share a maximum of 100 new generation attempts per UTC day; successful guides are cached for up to one hour.

These are ceilings, not guaranteed capacity. Shared limits can reject a request before an individual allowance is reached. Limits may be reduced, access suspended or keys revoked to prevent abuse, protect availability or respond to a security incident. We do not promise uninterrupted service or advance notice of emergency restrictions.

On HTTP 429, respect Retry-After; do not repeatedly retry a failed request. Do not evade limits by rotating keys, accounts, IP addresses or endpoint URLs. Do not flood the service, bypass access controls, impersonate a connector, probe other users' information or continue requests after access is withdrawn.

Observing guidance

Sky positions, times and above-horizon results are calculations, not guarantees of visibility. AI guides can include Apple WeatherKit hourly forecasts when available; forecasts may be uncertain, partial or unavailable. AI text can contain errors. Local obstructions, saved viewpoints, telescope suitability and observing safety are not assessed by this public service. Verify conditions before observing.

Never look at the Sun through an unfiltered telescope. Use a proper telescope-rated solar filter securely fitted over the front of the optics and safe procedures. Eclipse glasses or handheld viewers alone are unsafe with a telescope.

Privacy, attribution and contact

See our privacy policy for location processing, temporary references, guide caching and provider use, and our analytics disclosure for optional website analytics and aggregate MCP call counts. Preserve returned location and weather attribution when displaying results.
